Becky Zropf (Director) attended the OT National Private Practise Symposium at Stamford Grand Hotel in Adelaide on Friday 25th and Saturday 26th May. There were some interesting thought provoking messages about Resilience, as well as the ‘seven strategies for business success in 2020’. Workcom staff are looking forward to putting these great strategies into practice for our continued growth into 2020 and beyond.
A number of our Qld team attended a Mental Health First Aid course in May. Madeleen, Mitra, Ben, Gemma, Becky, Carlee, Jenny and Natasha attended the Mental Health First Aid Course at Workcom’s Moffat Beach boardroom on 29th and 30th May.
Many health professionals, including OT’s, would see it as important to be first aid trained for physical injuries. With 1 in 5 Australians experiencing a mental illness in their lifetime and over 8500 deaths by suicide per year, being trained in mental health first aid is vital to ensure we can identify and act appropriately if someone is in a mental health crisis.
The course covered the signs and symptoms of depression, anxiety, psychosis and substance abuse and provided an action plan for addressing each that was not focused on treatment by a health professional but rather first aid appropriate for the situation. The course would be helpful for the general public as well as health professionals. It is always important to be able to identify the warning signs and be able to render appropriate first aid.
